UPDATE: Croissant Saga goes on as French Chefs differ on shape – does nobody know Croissant is French word for CRESCENT meaning CURVED even in France – @AceFoodNews

#AceFoodNews – Feb.20: In a twist: Tesco’s decision to stop selling curved croissants sparks debate

French chefs differ on which shape is most authentic – but they do agree that Brits eat the pastries the wrong way anyway

Tesco’s decision to straighten out its curly croissants has divided opinion among top French chefs and bakers who cannot settle on which shape is the most authentic – but one thing they can agree on is that the British have been eating them the wrong way anyway.

The supermarket chain said the move was prompted by its customers wanting to spread their butter and jam more easily, but some of France’s finest croissant connoisseurs are aghast at the thought of sullying the carefully crafted pastries with such mundane condiments.

Food survey reveals people in UK prefer Takeways to cooing good old ‘ Fish and Chips ‘ – @AceFoodNews

#AceFoodNews – Feb.18: Goodbye, fish and chips: National Food Survey data reveals changing trends in British dining

Consumption of tea, baked beans and sliced bread has fallen since 1974 while takeaway food, pizza, pasta and fruit became more popular

In homes and cafes across the country, a cup of tea, baked beans on toast and fish and chips have long played a key role in the British dining experience.

But the extent of a change in tastes over the generations has been captured in a dataset published on Thursday in the National Food Survey, which was set up in 1940 by the government after concerns about health and access to food.

#AceFoodNews – Feb.18: Tesco says au revoir to the traditional French curved croissant because Brits prefer them straight.

The supermarket claims shoppers opt for straight croissants over the traditional crescent shape because they are easier to spread with jam.
