Food Of The Week – Cranberries – Anti-Oxidant Healing Properties


When searching the web and checking my news desk for certain emails, one of my favorite is to look for foods that have excellent properties, that protect your immune system. One such food is Cranberries and it is amazing how great they are for many reasons, here is one great extract from my friend George at his foundation:

Cranberries: 

Did you know that cranberries contain one of the highest concentrations of antioxidants of any fruit? Studies conducted at the University of Scranton, PA, found cranberries contain the highest level of phenol antioxidants when compared to 19 other common fruits! (Some of the other fruits found to be rich in phenols, in descending order after cranberries, were apples, red grapes, strawberries, pineapples, bananas, peaches, lemons, oranges, pears and grapefruit). Antioxidants are premier disease-fighters and anti-aging agents. Cranberry phenols have been found to help protect against certain types of cancers, the brain cell damage that usually occurs in the early stages after a stroke, and urinary tract infections. They protect against the free radical activity that is thought to be responsible for oxidizing cholesterol, which makes it harmful to arteries and the heart; memory impairment; difficulty in mobility; cataracts and macular degeneration of the eyes.

Cranberries are a major commercial crop in certain American states and Canadian provinces (see cultivation and uses below). Most cranberries are processed into products such as juice, sauce, jam, and sweetened dried cranberries, with the rest sold fresh to consumers. Cranberry sauce is regarded as an indispensable part of traditional American and Canadian Thanksgiving menus and some European winter festivals .

Just right for this time of the year and great as just a drink ,to help ward off illness.
